I've tried the artsoft instructions and you tube but nothing seems to work. G540 Spindle and Relay Wiring Diagram Posted on SeptemFebruby Tyler Design Concepts I’ve had the hardest time trying to find a simple wiring diagram for the Gecko G540 controller that includes how to wire up spindle and relay control. I have tried loading the xml settings from gecko but they dont seem to do anything although I don't know if I'm doing it correctly. When I try to control them through mach3 the program says they are moving but they are not. Do I need these resistors or am I overloking something?Īt the moment I have been trying for a few days to get it working but no matter what I try when its all powered up and the gecko has the green led on, the motors are locked and wont move. The kit didn't come with any current set resistors that gecko say you need for motors under 3.5a. The nema 23 steppers are 140 and 260oz and rated at 2.8a. It came with a 12 volt power supply and the g540 needs 18-50v apparently. It was supposed to be a complete kit with everything I needed, but thats another story. My solution to the limitation of Mach 3 only having a single probe input is to switch between spindle probe and tool setter on my gecko g540 with an M code c. Many advertised prices for other kits and machines do not include electronics, or other required components.I purchased a heavymill router kit from 3DTek | Local Aussie source for CNC, 3D Print & Electronics, shapeoko2, ordbot in Sydney just before xmas. It handles 50V, motor current - 3.5A, so I could use a 48V pwr supply. It looks to be very compact and would have fewer connections than manually wiring discrete components. I’ve seen nothing but good reviews reliable, less problems, etc.

As a comparison, to buy a commercially available machine of similar capability would cost anywhere from $6000 to $10000. Any opinions on the Gecko G540 Pretty expensive compared to 3 drivers and an inexpensive BOB. The estimated cost to build a running machine from these plans is approximately $2000 to $2500, assuming you source the parts yourself. You will get incredible performance for the cost. Gecko G540 Wiring While the G makes hooking up motors and getting them working a breeze, it can still be a bit daunting for those new to electronics and CNC.

Related Application Notes: G540 Software Configuration File (XML) G540 Initial. It contains four of the Geckodrive G250 drives, our a custon breakout board and a hard anodized aluminum case. will be easier to set up and locate, I am tight on space right now. The G540 is a complete 4-axis system which plugs directly into your computer via the parallel port and to your motors through DB9 connectors. It wouldnt change over after I went into the settings and changed the pinouts for some reason until after I closed out of Mach and rebooted it. The torsion boxes create a very stiff structure that is very good at resisting twist and deflection during machining operations. I have the Gecko G540 controller with a fourth axis, what else is needed Thanks, Dave. Attachments: Please Log in or Create an account to join the conversation. The frame components are constructed from hardwood baltic birch plywood using a torsion box design. I found a picture in the archive but it looked way different. The machine was carefully engineered to maximize performance and minimize cost to build, with low maintainance and high reliability. This machine is a high performance CNC machine using HIWIN profile linear guide rails and bearings, driven by C7 accuracy ball screws.
